Being A University Student During Covid-19

September 2020 sees over 2 million students begin and continue their university journey, however this year the new freshers are having to factor in the current worldwide pandemic.

The usual "freshers" experience consists of endless clubbing nights, flat parties and freshers events. These are designed to be the perfect socialising ground for meeting new people from across the country; however the 2020 undergrads have had this pivotal chance of socialising stripped from them as the clubs remain shut.

With 10pm curfews, crowds of masked faces and social distancing measures eliminating contact with wider groups of people; students have been forced to creatively adopt new and pandemic-friendly ways to make friends, in a time that is already extremely overwhelming. From sit down pub nights to virtual DJ nights, many students have found it challenging to make friends in these unconventional ways.

Although it doesn't just stop there, most of university learning itself has been moved online. This year's learning is being conducted through recorded and online video lectures - with limited to none on-campus learning.

The university experience of 2020 is certainly proving to be tough for everyone, giving these young adults a variety of personal and academic challenges to overcome.
